There are times when a powder coating job will require areas of the part that can’t have any powder coat on them. There are many options to make sure that there isn’t any powder coat on these areas. We will cover a few of them now.

 

Heat tape works very well but it must be able to withstand the high temp that the powder has to bake at if it’s left on the part during the baking cycle. There are many companies that supply this type of tape.

 

Silicon plugs and caps are available in various sizes for plugging holes and covering threaded studs.

 

Depending on the application, sometimes cleaning out a hole with a finger is adequate enough or dragging a razor blade over a surface can satisfy a project. These processes might require a little bit of cleaning up after the part is baked in the oven but it might save some time and money in the long run because it takes time to completely tape off a large surface.
